"Ain't I a Woman?" Print
8 × 8.5 Print on Glossy Cardstock paper
Original work inspired by George Hunt.
my rendition of George Hunt’s 1996 “I Am a Man” series. I was walking through Harlem on a random Tuesday evening and saw this painting hanging up in a barbershop. I instantly fell in love with the piece and had to create my own version.
My piece is inspired by Sojourner Truth’s iconic “Ain’t I a Woman” speech performed at the women’s rights convention in 1851. I used crayons to create bold colors that reflect her unabashed and outspoken nature. I continue to be inspired by Black women who speak their truth and use their art to make a difference.
